Mrs. Haynes and Ms. Walker
March 27, 2017
We had a great first week back following our relaxing Spring break. Students will begin their book writing unit as we explore graphic novels. We will start by exploring some during read aloud and then begin the first steps in the process. Students will receive a lesson on the different types of graphic novels and various techniques authors use. This unit will continue until the end of the year with the finished product being their very own book. We will compile all books into a class anthology.
We will spend the next couple of weeks creating booklets on the animals of the chordata phylum. Students have compiled the Mammalia booklet and will work on the internal components of the fish this week.
In US History students were given their group project assignment sheets last week. They will begin by reading and outlining the chapter. They are working at becoming experts on their content so they are better prepared to present to teachers and peers at the end of April. We all enjoyed BBC’s “Walking with Dinosaurs, Episode 1” last week. Students practiced listening comprehension as they filled out graphic organizer. We will continue through this series each week as we explore the Mesozoic era.
In Math some friends are learning about the tricks of multiplying and dividing decimals by the power of 10. Other friends are using materials to find the square root of numbers to the millions. Big work and a lot of fun!
Make sure your calendars are marked for the end of the year Spanish Play- Friday, May 12 at 9:15. More information on casting and costumes will go out in April.
Next Sunday, April 2, is our annual Art Show from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. The students have been working very hard on their contributions. We hope to see everyone there.
Have a great week!
